Big Data presents several potential ethical and social challeneges
Big Data
Hello everybody todays topic is big data :)
Reliability: It is important to have ways to detect false
information. Information may not be from a reliable source or can be very difficult
to track where the information has come from.
Privacy: The amount of data being collected is huge on
individuals. The individual’s private data can be accessed in minutes without
the individual’s knowledge and used to the company’s advantage. Individuals often
don’t know how much information is actually saved on them.
Accountability: With the large amount of data being spread it can
be hard to trace where false or misleading information comes from. When things don’t
go to plan it is hard to find accountability, it can be like trying to find a
needle in a haystack when errors come to light.
Cyber Security: All this data is accessed by data breaches or unauthorised
access and can be sold very quickly. It is a challenge to try to protect the
privacy of people's personal information when technology is becoming more and more
advanced to be used for unethical reasons.
Social Cooling: This is discrimination in terms of people not giving
their free speech ideas or opinions which leads to society ‘cooling down’
meaning people will not exercise free speech. Takes away the human aspect of
thinking and imperfections because of big data.
Volume of Data: Due to the large quantity of information, it can
be hard to detect the correct information which may lead people to false
information or incomplete information. Filtering out false information from correct
information is tough and can lead to mistakes or wrong decisions or also
cause a lot of stress.
Conclusion
Big data has a lot of potential to be great it also has its social
and ethical challenges that must be solved.
